
The meaning of the word “Iasi” is healing and has its origin from the Ancient Greek Goddess, Iaso. Iaso was the goddess of cures, remedies and modes of healing. She was a daughter and attendant of the medicine-god Asklepios, and worshipped as the goddess of recovery, in the temple of Amphiaraus at Oropus.
“Iasi Ensemble” is international musical – artistic ensemble, created by the composer – filmmaker – musician Iasonas Psarakis in collaboration with music producer Nikolas Gkinis and a diverse set of artists and musicians from India, Pakistan, Iran, China and Greece. The ensemble hopes to soothe the souls of people across the globe through the healing qualities of art and the union of diverse forms of arts and culture.

Their Astris debut music album received three Silver Medals at the 2024 Global Music Awards in California, USA, and won the award for Best World Album at the Clouzine Music Awards 2025. It was also nominated for Best Traditional Global Album at the 2025 World Entertainment Awards in L.A., USA. The album has charted prominently on world music platforms such as Ethnocloud (Canada) and One World Music Radio (UK). Additionally, Astris was included on the first-round ballot for the GRAMMY Awards® in the “Best Global Music Album” category. Astris is recorded at 432 Hz, the frequency of the universe.

Iasonas Psarakis is a Greek-born composer, filmmaker and musician specializing in North Indian Classical and World music. A soloist on the sitar, esraj, and other instruments, his career spans European Classical, Middle Eastern, and Hindustani Classical music traditions. He has studied under esteemed gurus such as Ameena Perera (daughter of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan), Pandit Debi Prasad Chatterjee, Amie Maciszawski, and Sabyasachida Sarkhel.
He graduated from Sangit Bhavan at Visva Bharati University with a B.Mus. in Hindustani Classical Music (Sitar), supported by multiple scholarships, including from ICCR India.
In 2016, Iasonas released his debut album, Clay.
His music has been showcased in theatres, concert halls, collectives, films, radio broadcasts, international music festivals, street performances and archaeological sites across the globe, including Greece, India, Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Turkey and other countries.
In 2019, Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized his first solo concert in Egypt. He has also performed in historically significant venues such as the Apollon Theatre (Ermoupolis) and the Theocharakis B&M Foundation for the Fine Arts & Music in Greece.
As the founder, composer, and arranger of the Iasi Ensemble, Iasonas released their debut album, Astris, in December 2023. The album features collaborations with renowned musicians from India, Middle East, and Greece. It received a six Silver Medals at the Global Music Awards in California, USA, and charted prominently on world music platforms such as Ethnocloud (Canada) and One World Music Radio (UK). Additionally, Astris was included on the first-round ballot for the GRAMMY Awards® in the “Best Global Music Album” category.
